Statement from Queens BP Candidate Jim Quinn on Newly Released NYPD Crime Stats
Statement from Queens Borough President Candidate Jim Quinn on Recently Released NYPD Crime Statistics Under New Bail Laws
March 6, 2020... “Anyone with half a brain knew that after 25 years of proactive policing and declining crime, releasing thousands of dangerous career criminals would result in increased crime. But radical politicians controlling Albany and City Hall didn’t care about the impact, they just wanted to achieve their extreme political agenda.
“As a career prosecutor, I know firsthand that there is no such thing as a victimless crime. These new statistics should send chills down the spines of every New Yorker whose safety is at risk under these dangerous laws. While my opponents either turn a blind eye--or even attack the NYPD--I am the only candidate who understands the urgency of the situation and will fight to stop it.
“As Borough President, I am prepared to use every tool at my disposal to stop the real-life damage these laws are causing, including land-use oversight to stop the closure of Rikers and the creation of a budget that prioritizes public safety. We need action and it starts with this election.”
